“As a first-generation immigrant to this country and proud product of public schools, I know firsthand how powerful an education can be in lifting families out of poverty and creating community leaders. I believe in public schools and can think of no cause more critical than ensuring that they are working for all of our children today.”

Victor De La Paz was recently appointed as deputy chief financial officer for Hartford Public Schools. In this role, he is responsible of school and central office budgeting, risk management, fixed assets, and legislative affairs for the district. De La Paz previously served as special assistant to the Superintendent of Hartford Public Schools where he was responsible for projects of strategic value to the district including co-leading the district’s first-ever Strategic Operating Plan process, resulting in a 3-year plan adopted by the Hartford Board of Education. Further, De La Paz implemented School Governance Councils at 26 autonomous schools across the district, which were later emulated by state legislators and enacted state-wide. He also held leadership roles with respect to the district’s legislative priorities, performance management, and student based budgeting processes.

Just prior to the Broad Residency, he was a senior manager with Capital One, where he was responsible for cultivating new clients for the co-brand debit card unit.
